Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756 – 1791) Encouraged by his father, as a child he performed in front of the most important monarchs of his time and was a European sensation. In 1781 he took an unprecedented step and settled in Vienna as a freelance artist who was not tied to a court or other employer. From 1784 onwards, he was able to enjoy triumphant success, but also had to endure financial hardship when lucrative contracts and concerts failed to materialize. Mozart died, completely unexpectedly, on 5 December 1791 without being able to enjoy the epochal success of the Magic Flute, which had just premiered.
