Stefan Litwin

Stefan Litwin, born in Mexico City in 1960, studied piano, composition and interpretation in the USA and Switzerland with Christoph Keller, Jürg Wyttenbach, Walter Levin and Charles Rosen, among others. He also received important input from Herbert Brün. 
His international concert activities include solo programs and performances with renowned orchestras and chamber music partners. He also works with singers and actors. 

Stefan Litwin has collaborated with composers such as Luciano Berio, Michael Gielen, Alexander Goehr, Johannes Kalitzke, Luigi Nono, Frederic Rzewski, Mathias Spahlinger and Hans Zender. Furthermore, he particularly enjoys presenting music in the lecture-recital format, thereby demonstrating and explaining at the keyboard music of the piano and chamber music repertoire. 
Stefan Litwin is increasingly shifting his work to composing. Recent works include “The Bells“ (E.A. Poe), “... but not hell:“ (Imre Kertész), “244, 37“ for 6 clarinets and prepared piano, “Among Friends“ for 6 voices and prepared piano, “Stößt“ (Franz Kafka) for soprano, bass clarinet and prepared piano, the chamber opera “Nacht mit Gästen“ (Peter Weiss), and “Kinderszenen“ for 8 instruments and sampler. 

Stefan Litwin is Professor for New Music at the Hochschule für Musik Saar. From 2003 to 2005 he was a Fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin and during the 2005/06 season Distinguished Artist in Residence at Christ College at Cambridge University, UK. Since 2008 he has been a regular guest lecturer as George C. Kennedy Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. 

Television and radio productions in Europe and the USA as well as numerous CD productions document his artistic work.
