In this conversation, Kapwani Kiwanga, Julia Grosse and Carolin Köchling speak about Kiwanga’s research on disciplinary architecture and her sound work 500ft, which is presented within the context of Soundshapes – In Between Frequencies: Volume I​​​​​​​.

Kapwani Kiwanga lives and works in Paris. Currently, Kiwanga is a fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As of fall 2023, she will be an artist in residence at the Villa Medici in Rome. Kiwanga studied anthropology and comparative religion at McGill University in Montreal, and art at Beaux-Arts de Paris. Recent and upcoming institutional solo exhibitions include: Capc, Bordeaux (2023), Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg (2023); New Museum, New York (2022); Museum Haus Konstruktiv, Zurich (2022); State of Concept Athens (2021); Haus der Kunst, Munich (2020); Kunstinstituut Melly, Rotterdam (2020); MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge, Massachusetts (2019); The Power Plant, Toronto (2017) and Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, Chicago (2017). In 2024, Kiwanga will represent Canada at the 60th Venice Biennale.
