Rirkrit Tiravanija is known for works that invite the audience to eat and drink, celebrate, make music, read or relax. He has also repeatedly addressed the social situation in Germany. In his tour of the exhibition, Jörn Schafaff uses a number of examples to explain how. He will also look at the question of what table tennis might have to do with this. The starting point of the tour is Tiravanija’s artistic beginnings in the 1980s.
Jörn Schafaff is an art historian, curator and author. His involvement with Tiravanija’s work dates back to the 1990s. He has managed Tiravanija’s studio archive in Berlin since 2009. His book Rirkrit Tiravanija: Set, Scenario, Situation. Works 1987-2005 was the first comprehensive monograph on the work of the Thai artist. Jörn Schafaff currently teaches at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the ZHdK Zurich.
