Concert
Tamburada evolved from saxophonist Korhan Futaci’s free jazz trio and the electronica ensemble fairytale, a group run by the Turkish-English singer Özlem Simsek and sound-wizard Tansu Kaner. Playing everything from modern jazz to electronic music Tamburada excels in representing Istanbul’s current atmosphere and frenetic hype – especially the European historic district of Beyoglu is well-captured.
In terms of musical background Norway and Bulgaria might have little in common. But Farmers Market manages to combine the two cultures successfully. Leader Stian Carstensen specifies their style of music as ‘pepsodentic speed-balkan-boogie with cowboy-chords’. They help themselves to jazz, folk, pop and classical music as well as noise and improvisation putting on a performance of spectacular variety.
