Ida Sand’s career began in a church choir. Her father was a well known Swedish opera singer and her mother is still a church organist. From the age of eight, Ida learned to play the cello and piano and also sang in several choirs. At 16, Ida went to study at the music gymnasium in Stockholm and two years later, she continued to the Academy of Music in Gothenburg, where she immersed herself in the city’s lively jazz scene.

As fascinating as jazz was to young Ida, her musical influences remained – besides gospel choirs – Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. After graduating in 2000, she worked continually, spending her time doing nightclub gigs, playing piano bars and soul clubs. Always busy, always learning.

No matter if she deals with original material or cover versions of pop or jazz standards - the Swede .turns every song into a very personal affair, peppered with her “voice of great sweetness and strength. Sand’s voice can flip from soul-drenched intensity to bluesy candour … The arrival of a dynamic, multifaceted talent.” (jazzwise)
