The Greek (film) composer and pianist Tania Giannouli (*1977) from Athens has released eight albums during her career, spanning a remarkable range of operation. In 2012, she made her debut with the New Zealand label Rattle Records, where she recorded a duo with Portuguese saxophonist Paulo Chagas. Her international breakthrough came with the album “Transcendence”, an exquisite chamber music quintet. The most recent album “Rewa” also made quite a stir: fully improvised music featuring New Zealand Maori musician Rob Thorne and Steve Garden’s subtle electronic beats.

In her Berlin-debut, Tania Giannouli will be performing with a brand-new trio in an unusual orchestration: piano, trumpet and oud – a Byzantine-inspired, thoroughly occidental-oriental sound constellation that brings out the oscillations of the music’s temperature and temperament. Andreas Polyzogopoulos (*1981), currently Greece's leading jazz trumpeter, forms the link between Giannouli and oudist Kyriakos Tapakis (*1977), also known for his work with lyricist Sokratis Sinopoulos and bassist Dine Doneff (both ECM).
