Lokale Musik aus der Schweiz

All of the films to be shown in the programme Local Music from Switzerland on Saturdays and Sundays will deal with Swiss musicians and Swiss music and/or the Helvetian musical, song and sound culture. This turning to local music is, however, not to be seen as an expression of traditionalist nostalgia. It is a reaction to the changes of the Helvetian musica alpina itself, to the rediscovery of traditional Swiss folk music, its instruments and ways of performance, by a generation of instructed and unbiased musicians, whose socialization was rather moulded by experiences with jazz and avantgarde. The films also illustrate the high standards of Swiss film making, which has developed a preference for the topic of “home” as well as for a documentary style presenting the topic in very imaginative ways.
