Concert | Sonic Arts Lounge
The Curtis Ensemble will present a portrait concert in the Sonic Arts Lounge featuring solo, duo and trio compositions by Alvin Lucier. One of the works was commissioned by MaerzMusik. The American composer, performer and sound researcher is one of the pioneers of experimental American music. He will be present in Berlin as a guest of MaerzMusik and will perform Opera with Objects (1997) at this concert. In his music, Alvin Lucier frequently employs extremely minimalist basic concepts to explore the acoustic properties of sounds and their vibration and interference patterns in space. Many of his works juxtapose electro-acoustic sounds with natural or instrumental ones, exploring their tonal and musical relationships and discovering fascinating sound properties in the process. Tuba player Robin Hayward, cellist Charles Curtis and clarinettist/pianist Anthony Burr are old friends of Lucier and experts on his music. Their interpretations of his music are unique for their concentration and subtlety.
