As a musician, American cellist Charles Curtis is as much at home in his standard repertoire as in experimental pieces. From 1989 to 2000, he was First Solo Cellist of the Symphony Orchestra of the North German Radio (NDR) in Hamburg. At the same time, he became closely associated with composer La Monte Young, and is one of his most important interpreters. Alvin Lucier and La Monte Young are among the composers who have written works for him. In addition, Charles Curtis has also created his own works, including projects stretching between avant-garde and rock music.
