Concert | Berlin-based Orchestras
Commemorative pieces make up a substantial section within György Kurtág’s oeuvre. “Stele” depicts a psychological portrait of mourning in three movements. In Mahler’s Second Symphony, memories of death are turned into images of hope. The work begins with the highly dramatic funeral rites and ends with the resurrection chorus.
