In this tour, curator Beatrix Ruf shares insights into the artistic approaches of General Idea and the conceptual development of the retrospective.
The guided tour introduces the audience to the exhibited works of General Idea at the Gropius Bau. Ruf will give a deep insight into the conceptual beginnings of the artist group and the important use of fiction and self-mythologising in their artistic practice. Following the notion of the image as a virus, the tour investigates how General Idea deployed aesthetics of pop culture and glamour as well as strategies of mass media formats to develop works in the wake of the AIDS-crisis.
