As part of the opening week of Rirkrit Tiravanija’s exhibition DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG, I.U.D. will perform on Tiravanija’s demo station in the Gropius Bau’s atrium.

The percussion duo, consisting of Lizzi Bougatsos (member of Gang Gang Dance) and Sadie Laska (former member of Growing, Extreme Violence), infuses industrial noise with abrasive screams and inventive drum work. Described as “minimal, contagious noise” by the magazine Artforum, their album The Proper Sex has gained cult status in the New York noise scene.

At the Gropius Bau, I.U.D. perform on a demo station by Rirkrit Tiravanija. The stage-like sculpture invites people to “demonstrate” something. Tiravanija plays with the different meanings of the term “demonstration” as both a political protest and a presentation of someone’s talent or hobby. For the duration of the exhibition, the demo station provides a space for daily public performances.

During the 15 years they have been performing, I.U.D. have played at Performance Space New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art, Kunsthalle Zürich, David Zwirner Gallery and P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, among other places. They have collaborated with Kim Gordon and Spencer Sweeney and shared bills with OOIOO and The Royal Trux
