As part of Rirkrit Tiravanijas exhibition DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG, the film Karl’s Perfect Day by the artist will be shown in the Gropius Bau cinema, starring Karl Holmqvist – an artist, poet and friend of Tiravanija.

As part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition DAS GLÜCK IST NICHT IMMER LUSTIG by Rirkrit Tiravanija, the Gropius Bau invites you to a monthly series of Long Evenings. In addition to the film screening, there will be a book presentation with Josephine Apraku, Eric Otieno Sumba, Sharonda Quainoo and Nadine Nzambisa Ngolo, a cooking show by Luiza Prado De O. Martins, a performance by Petra Hermanova and a DJ set by Ayzon taking place on the same evening.

In the film, Tiravanija accompanies Holmqvist through an entire day in Berlin: from getting out of bed and brushing his teeth, crossing the city by bike, meeting friends, to reading aloud on the balcony. Since the 1990s, Holmqvist has been using different types of text – from poetry to advertising slogans – and reassembling them in new ways. The film is a detailed portrait of a day with Holmqvist, that adapts entirely to his rhythm.

Karl Holmqvist lives and works in Berlin. Recent solo exhibitions include Laxart, Los Angeles, Fridericianum, Kassel, Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva, Indipendenza, Rome (with Klara Liden). He has participated in several editions of the Venice Biennale and Performa, New York.

During the event, photographs and video recordings may be made in which you may be recognisable. By attending, you consent to these recordings being used to communicate the event or exhibition.
