European co-production project
World premiere
This concert is part of “GRAND OPENING: Haus of Jazz”
melting pot has been in existence since 2013. It is an interdisciplinary improvisation project of young European jazz musicians and artists from other fields (spoken word, dance, visual arts) that emerged from the cooperation association jazzplayseurope initiated by Nadin Deventer in 2007. After ten editions of melting pot as part of the Jazztopad Festival Wroclaw, this will be the first Berlin edition, featuring the encounter of five strong musicians in their late 20s who bring a wide scale of playing experience and opportunities: Belgian bassist Anneleen Boehme (Ghent, LAB Trio), Polish visual artist Lena Czerniawska (Berlin), Mexican vibraphone-player Emilio Gordoa (Berlin, Move Quintet, Per Zanussi Ensemble), Polish trumpeter Kuba Kurek (Wroclaw) – whose musical brilliance was already demonstrated in former editions – and Norwegian guitarist Christian Winther (Oslo, Monkey Plot, Ich bin Nintendo, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra). A special feature of this first Berlin constellation is that playing and listening will not only be rendered visible and ‘legible’ through Live Drawing, but that with her drawing, Lena Czerniawska will be actively involved in the music. The melting pot-series will be continued only two weeks later in Wroclaw: Ghent and Oslo will follow next spring.
