Concert | String Quartet | Music – Voice – Text
The concert of the Pellegrini-Quartett will approach the central theme of “Music – Voice - Text” from different angles. The string quartets by Klaus Huber and Salvatore Sciarrino are two examples of how present-day composers open up a dialogue between their newly composed musical texts and the history of the string quartet as a musical form, adding a new chapter to that history at the same time. Sciarrino’s arrangements of two works by Domenico and Alessandro Scarlatti represent an attempt to re-read historical musical texts from a present-day perspective, by transferring them to a new instrumentation or by overlaying them with contemporary vocabulary. Finally, John McGuire’s composition will show how a voice enters into a gradually changing relationship with music.
