MusicART – Lightening
Each of the five movements of Death of Light / Light of Death by Jonathan Harvey depicts a figure in Grünewald’s famous Isenheim Altarpiece. The altarpiece itself will be the basis for discussion by students, the focus being its inherent themes of death and resurrection as well as the related figures seen in the paintings. The students will then translate their ideas and impressions into musical form and, together with musicians of the Berliner Philharmoniker, create a composition in five parts. The performance of their piece in the foyer of the Philharmonie will be juxtaposed with a performance of Jonathan Harvey’s composition Death of Light / Light of Death for oboe, harp and string trio.
