Elliott Carter for his 100th Birthday
The man is a phenomenon. Elliot Carter, nestor of American Modernism, constructor of transatlantic cultural connections, will turn 100 on the 11th of December. In his catalogue of works, the last decade – the zone »ninety plus« – stands out as particularly productive. With age, Carter’s creativity has accelerated.
He has especially close connections to Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin State Opera. For the Unter den Linden venue, he wrote his only opera What next? at the age of 90. At musikfest berlin 08 the orchestra and the general music director present an excerpt from the latest works by the New York composer.
