Glenn Marla is an artist whose work focuses on themes of body liberation, gender, fat, shifting cycles of trauma and writing new narratives to replace the ones that are oppressive. It is Marla’s goal that their work amplifies a voice in the world that is most often quieted, dampened or disregarded. Amplified through performance and puppets, Marla’s is a voice that attempts honesty, humour and vulnerability. Marla has made puppets for their original plays and performances “Scarcity Freezer” (IRT Theater), “The Wild Unwanted” with St. Ann’s Warehouse Puppet Lab and has collaborated with Taylor Mac, transforming judy into a poppy flower in “The Lily’s Revenge”, a dandy minion in “A 24-Decade History of Popular Music” or Sexual Consent Santa in “Holiday Sauce”.
