Seven lives in fast forward. Seven children on the brink of puberty are confronted in a glass container with interviews with themselves – recorded when they were two years younger. What was important then – like the cuddly stuffed polar bear – is of no interest now. What once seemed unimaginable – smoking – is now lived experience. How fast a life can change.

From there, with the help of costumes and jump cuts, we move forward into the future, passing through a youthful Goth phase, mid-life crises, pensioners’ exercise classes and finally death. The potential of childhood (“I can do this, and this…”) turns into the conditional of adulthood (“I could have done this, or that...”). Decisions are made, chances passed up. The performance collective Gob Squad’s sending these children into the game of life, full of great expectations and with no inkling of the sobering experience which inevitably awaits them, is an act of targeted cruelty. At the same time, however, their perspective lends a playful lightness to the final stages. Life would be terribly sad if it wasn’t so incredibly funny.
