Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung will award the 2019 Theatre-Award-Berlin to the performance collective She She Pop for their extraordinary services to the German-language theatre.
The jury reasons:
“With their intelligent and entertaining stage works, popular in the best sense of the word, She She Pop have not only contributed to the establishment of […] the practice of collective authorship. They also developed an appropriately solidary working practice, a feminist counter-concept to the customary structures of German municipal theatres.”
The decision regarding this award was made by a jury consisting of Eva Behrendt (theatre critic), Prof Michael Börgerding (artistic director of Theater Bremen), Dr Thomas Oberender (artistic director of Berliner Festspiele), and with Yvonne Büdenhölzer (Theatertreffen’s director) attending with an advisory vote.
The Theatre-Award-Berlin is endowed with a sum of 20,000 Euro and will be awarded at a matinee event during the Berlin Theatertreffen by Michael Müller, Governing Mayor of Berlin and Chairman of Stiftung Preußische Seehandlung. The event will be hosted by friends of the collective.
