The dance piece “FRUST” is part of the trilogy “AUF DIE FRESSE” by the ACADEMY stage art school's production house. The ensemble and the choreographer met for the first time in this constellation at an introductory workshop in December 2023 and embarked on a joint thought process. It quickly became clear that “FRUST” is a central moment in the “AUF DIE FRESSE” complex that can be easily translated into movement. This feeling, which can spread as a result of events, experiences or even information, can paralyse you, be quick and sharp, discharge itself in anger or even transform into sadness.

Available from 27 September 2024 until 26 September 2025 in the BerlinerFestspiele Media Library.

“FRUST” is before the change. It is the preliminary stage for something that will follow - deep down, with ourselves and somehow honestly. We talked about everything that currently frustrates us - and a lot came together. From current political events (the right is gaining strength and young people don't care?!) to climate change (why aren't politicians taking more courageous action?!), from homelessness in Berlin (why do people learn to walk past people lying on the side of the road?!) to individual freedom and why people don't dare to dance in the underground because of Instagram profiles like ‘Das ist Berlin Bitch’.

The rehearsal period began at the end of January with a weekend, followed by nine intensive rehearsal days during the winter holidays. During rehearsals, we trained our bodies with daily workouts and drills and then worked on solos and group choreographies. We all developed the solos ourselves. We came up with sentences or words as titles for our respective solos, such as: “I am the essence of frustration”, “Frustration because of dependency”, “Helplessness”, “Difficult”, “My frustration is killing me” or “Not like this”.
