In addition to the recording of the opening ceremony, the productions from Theatertreffen der Jugend will also be available in the Berliner Festspiele media library on the next working day after the respective performance until May 2025. The media library also offers on-demand content from previous years.This year’s selection ranges from musicals and classic transmissions to collages, activist plays and a martial arts performance. In terms of content, the ensembles deal with unrequited love, queerness, fluid gender roles, the helplessness of society in the face of an uncertain future and the question of how peace can come about.&nbsp;

The next Theatertreffen der Jugend will take place from 30 May&nbsp;to 6 June&nbsp;2025. Applications are now open again.&nbsp;The application deadline has been extended until 10&nbsp;February 2025.

60 ensembles from 13&nbsp;federal states have submitted their productions for the 46th&nbsp;Theatertreffen der Jugend 2025. The applicants have developed their productions at a wide variety of school types, or in cooperation between schools and theatres, in youth clubs at municipal and state theatres, as independent groups, at youth cultural institutions or at community theatres.

The Theatertreffen der Jugend sees itself as a platform and place of impulses and exchange, a place of learning where young theater makers can negotiate their working methods and their different themes and attitudes and are encouraged in their individual, artistic forms of expression. The focus is on the invited productions and the encounter and exchange between the young players and their directors in a wide variety of formats.

About Theatertreffen der Jugend

The Theatertreffen der Jugend is part of the Treffen junge Szene of the Berliner Festspiele and is sponsored as a national contest by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).<table border="1" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="1" style="width:500px"> <tbody> <tr> <td><img alt="" src="/magnoliaAuthor/dam/jcr:6318970e-ebfd-4186-8f69-8e41b6be0b4c/BMBF_sponsored_by__en_rgb.svg" style="height:138px; width:175px"></td> </tr> </tbody></table>

The artists take us into the world of mythology, rewrite classical material and turn their protagonists into influencers, develop collages or invite us to a martial arts performance. They deal with the helplessness of society, grievances, pressure to perform, the culture of remembrance, fluid gender roles and failure. They have a sense of humour, working with caricatures and humorous elements. The performers seek interactive encounters with the audience and express themselves in chants, songs, choreographies or on the vertical cloth. This year’s selection has many intense moments in store and confronts us sometimes with a threatening, sometimes with an imaginative future.&nbsp;This year marks the 45th edition of the Theatertreffen der Jugend. A proud number behind which stand decades of impressive young theatre work and strong messages. This shows that the importance of theatre as a means of expression for young people remains unbroken across generations. The moment is so intense, so much to discover, to feel, to experience. And yet we are always on the move into the future. Into an uncertain future.&nbsp;The young theatre makers talk about such intense moments and about their wishes, fears and demands for the nebulous future. They show activism, passion, discipline and a willingness to fight. We encounter modern gladiators, transcultural ensembles, time travellers and lovers, hear the rhythm of different languages and live music on stage.&nbsp;

Of the Moment and the Future

Applications for 2024 are no longer possible. Deadline was 31&nbsp;January 2024.&nbsp;The selection will be announced on 26&nbsp;March 2024.

The four meetings

Young theatre makers, dancers, musicians and authors are given a platform for their creative work at the four national contests of the Treffen junge Szene and are specifically supported in their artistic development.

The next Theatertreffen der Jugend will take place from 30 May to 6 June 2025.

Tickets may occasionally become available even when events are marked as sold out. It is therefore worth checking in the webshop at regular intervals. Any remaining tickets will also be available at the evening box office.

The international Jazzfest Research Lab&nbsp;welcomes academics and students to take a critical look at the festival’s archive, its programmes, creators, musicians and – last but not least – its myths. In two seminars during the summer semester of 2024, students from the Berlin University of the Arts and the University of Hildesheim have explored the festival’s history from various perspectives. In this film, the participants give a first look at how they dealt with their research subject.

To mark its 60th anniversary, Jazzfest Berlin is celebrating the cultural diversity of the neighbouring district of Moabit in collaboration with around 35 official partners and initiatives and with over 350 participants of all ages.&nbsp;In June 2024, interviews were conducted with 20 partners who presented their perspectives, wishes and ideas for the Jazzfest Community Lab Moabit. The 10 Remarkable Productions 2024

On 26 January, the Theatertreffen’s jury of critics announced their selection of 10 remarkable productions for the 2024 Theatertreffen at a press conference. Our congratulations go to the nominated production teams and all participants! The programme will be published on 5 April.

Theatertreffen 2024

“Radical Playgrounds”, an art parcours at the Gropius Bau, is spending eleven weeks exploring the differences between the concepts of play as competition and free play. Visitors are invited to walk and climb on the various installations and sculptures, to activate them and to shape the project collectively.

Summer School 2025

As part of Performing Exiles there will be a Summer School from 16 to 28&nbsp;June 2025. This will offer workshops, seminars and mentoring. The participants will see the performances and guest productions in the festival programme and visit artistic initiatives and cultural institutions in Berlin that operate across a wide range of disciplines and contexts. A public presentation of the participants’ current work and research at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele will complete the programme.
