
Robin Curtis is the Chair for Media Culture Studies at the Albert-Ludwigs University in Freiburg. From 2012 to 2017 she was Professor for the Theory and Practice of Audiovisual Media at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf. She was born in Toronto. She is a filmmaker (“Nachlass”, 1992), curator (special programme “Out of Time” Oberhausen 2001, Werkleitz Biennial 2002, Goethe Institute “Gender Conflict Resolution” Israel / Palestine 2003) and film and media scholar. 2008-2011 Feodor-Lynen Fellow, Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at SUNY Buffalo, NY, USA; Adjunct Professor New York University, Global Academic Center Berlin. From 2002 to 2010 research associate at Freie Universität Berlin in the collaborative research centre “Cultures of the Performative”. Co-editor of “Pop: Kultur und Kritik” (transcript Verlag), “Jahrbuch immersiver Medien” (poker Verlag) as well as a member of the advisory board for the Internet journal nachdemfilm.de. Research topics: Immersion, immersion and abstraction, immersion and empathy, empathy and “new” media.
