Ensemble Senza Sforzando

The ensemble Senza Sforzando, which was founded by the conductor and pianist Oleksandr Perepelytsia in 2001, has close links to Odessa’s legendary Festival of Modern Art Two Days and Two Nights of New Music and thus stands for a tireless love of experimentation and tonal curiosity. Senza Sforzando regards itself as a sound lab that taps into new forms of musical expression. Its musicians set great store by using music to reflect on current events, social challenges and cultural changes. The ensemble’s repertoire ranges from music from the early avant-garde and Western modernism to contemporary works. It has a particular interest in collaborating with young composers, who develop pieces specifically for the ensemble. Senza Sforzando is regularly involved in a variety of international projects, including the International Festival for New Music ProvinzLärm, projects run by MEHRKLANG Gesellschaft für Neue Musik Freiburg, the High Art Festival Bouquet Kyiv Stage, the Kyiv Music Fest, Contrasts Lviv, the Gogol Fest Kyiv, European Identity Beyond the New EU and the 1st International Festival of Young Composers and Performers of Contemporary Music Marine Fest Odessa. The ensemble Senza Sforzando is a permanent fixture at the Two Days and Two Nights of New Music festival. Each year artists come up with a new programme with world premieres by Ukrainian and foreign composers. New musicians often get to join the ensemble so as to be able to expand the tonal spectrum and promote dialogue between different musical approaches. As a result, new genres can be included and interesting artistic ideas realised.
