Winrich Hopp

Artistic Director Musikfest Berlin

Winrich Hopp, born in Berlin in 1961, began by studying Music and then Musicology in Freiburg/Breisgau, where he completed his doctoral thesis. Posts have included press officer for the city of Dresden’s Cultural Department with responsibility for the Dresden Centre for Contemporary Music. In 1997 he was given responsibility for the production and dramaturgy of Bayerische Rundfunk’s musica viva concert series and in 2002 he moved to the Kunststiftung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen in Dusseldorf, joining the supervisory board. He has also been a board member of the Institute for New Music and Musical Education in Darmstadt and a founder member of the International Ensemble Modern Akademy in Frankfurt/Main. He has been Director of the Musikfest Berlin for the Berliner Festspiele since 2006 and has also been Artistic Director of the musica viva concert series for Bayerischer Rundfunk in Munich since 2011. Winrich Hopp is a full member of the North Rhine-Westphalia Academy of Arts and Sciences.
