Rainer Merkel

Rainer Merkel was born in Cologne in 1964 and studied psychology and history of art. He is mainly known as a prose writer and has published the novels “Das Jahr der Wunder” (for which he was awarded the Prize of the Jürgen Ponto Foundation in 2001), “Das Gefühl am Morgen” and “Lichtjahre entfernt” (which was on the shortlist for the German Book Prize in 2009). In 2008 and 2009, Rainer Merkel worked at the only psychiatric hospital in Liberia; this was followed by his novel “Bo” and the reports “Das Unglück der Anderen” and “Go Ebola Go”. In 2013, Rainer Merkel was awarded the Erich-Fried-Preis. He lives in Berlin. “Lauf und bring us dein nacktes Leben (Run and bring us your naked life)” is his debut as a playwright and part of a trilogy on the NGO-scene.
