Myriam Van Imschoot

Myriam Van Imschoot is a Brussels-based artist working in performance, film and installation with the voice as the constituent agent on the tangents of bruitism and ecology, field recording and old vernacular customs.

She runs Oral Site a publishing house for artist publications that consider orality as an important vector for transmission; within this environment she curates a series on sound poetry, Volume SP.

A recurring interest in her art is the role of anachronism or old popular remnants and lingering customs that defy the narrative of modern progress. Vocal performances like What Nature Says (2015) and Chorus in CC. A vocal gesture (2017, created for MaerzMusik) solicit the imaginaries that come with the human effort to transvestize into animals and other forces by way of audio-mimesis.

Right now her current research looks into New Polyphonies as a ground to prepare a commissioned work for the contemporary vocal ensemble Hyoid in collaboration with the sound artist Fabrice Moinet.
