Wu Wei

The sheng virtuoso Wu Wei has developed this ancient instrument into an innovative force in contemporary music. He has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras, ensembles and conductors around the world and at prestigious international festivals. He has also premiered more than 400 works, including 20 concerts for sheng and orchestra. Wu Wei composes for the sheng and receives commissions for compositions. He studied at Shanghai Conservatory of Music in Shanghai and the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin and has since become a Professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He is the winner of many awards including the German music competition Musica Vitale, the German World Music Prize in the Globale Ruth category and the German Record Critics’ Award. Wu Wei has produced numerous CDs and DVDs.
