Matthew McLaughlin began practicing Hula at the age of one in Hawaii, continuing until he was four. As the child of military parents, he moved frequently, which allowed him to explore a variety of sports and art forms. McLaughlin eventually moved to New York for his studies, graduating from Purchase College in 2018, where he performed works by renowned choreographers such as Aszure Barton, Kevin Wynn, Kyle Abraham, and George Balanchine. He joined the Mark Morris Dance Group in 2019, becoming a full company member in 2021. In 2024, he performed at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) as part of the company’s domestic tour.
