Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke

Wolfgang Ablinger-Sperrhacke studied at the Vienna Academy of Music with Gerhard Kahry and Kurt Equiluz. After first engagements in Linz, Basel and Munich, he made his debut at the Opéra National de Paris in 1997, where he sang numerous roles in his field, including Monostatos and alternating First Armour in “Die Zauberflöte”, Goro in “Madama Butterfly”, Block/Gerichtsdieners in the world premiere of “K...” by Philippe Manoury, Capito in “Mathis der Maler”, Mime in “Der Ring des Nibelungen” and Shabby Peasant in “Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk”.

In 1999 he made his debut with great success at the Glyndebourne Festival, where he has now sung over 130 performances, including Vašek in “The Bartered Bride”, Reverend in “Peter Grimes”, Arnalta in “L’Incoronazione di Poppea”, Knusperhexe in “Hansel and Gretel” – the last two also semi-concertante at the BBC Proms in the Royal Albert Hall –, Tanzmeister in “Ariadne auf Naxos” and Podestà in “La finta giardiniera”.

Guest engagements have taken him to the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and to the opera houses of Berlin, Vienna, Zurich, Madrid, and Amsterdam as well as to the festivals in Salzburg, Bregenz, Baden-Baden and Aix-en-Provence.
