
Ivan Panteleev was born in 1968 in Sofia, Bulgaria, where he also studied theatre directing. He directed pieces by Anton Chekhov, James Joyce, Luigi Pirandello, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Heiner Müller and Irvine Welsh in Avignon, Riga, Sofia and Stockholm. From 1998 to 1999, he was a scholarship holder at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. He works at Staatstheater Stuttgart, Schauspielhaus Zürich and Luzerner Theater. He also directs his own texts, such as “Drei Sterne suchen einen Koch (Three stars in search of a chef)” at Deutsches Theater Berlin and “Herr Rossi sucht das Glück (Mr Rossi in search of happiness)” at Theater Freiburg. Panteleev wrote and directed the documentary film “Homo ludens” about director Dimiter Gotscheff. For Gotscheff’s productions, he wrote the stage versions of Chekhov’s “Ward 6” and Peter Handke’s “Immer noch Sturm (Storm Still)”. Since 2010, he has been a guest professor for directing at the Hochschule für Schauspielkunst “Ernst Busch” in Berlin.
