Johanna Benrath is a theatre director who lives and works in Zurich. She studied theatre studies, art history and literary studies at Freie Universität Berlin from 2012 to 2017, and theatre directing at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste from 2017 to 2020. She works for both state theatres and the independent theatre scene. In 2019 she co-founded netzwerk wildi blaatere (nwb), a non-hierarchical, process-oriented association of eleven artists. As part of nwb she creates theatre works that deal with modern myths. The themes of her work revolve around scamming, lies, fiction, knights, heteronormativity and happy endings. Johanna Benrath is interested in playful and strong characters who want to tell their own story. She also loves collaborative work, artistic exchange and working with improvisation.
