Valeria Gordeev

Valeria Gordeev is an author and illustrator. In 2023, she won the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize with a text that will be turned into a play at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden in 2025, directed by Marie Schleef. Her debut novel will be published by S. Fischer in fall 2025. Among other things, it deals with the political and cultural heritage of the Soviet Union against the backdrop of contemporary Russia. Excerpts of the manuscript were awarded the Floriana Biennale Prize for Literature in 2022 and nominated for the Alfred Döblin Prize in 2021. She studied mathematics at the Humboldt University of Berlin, literary writing at the German Literature Institute Leipzig and Art in Context at the Berlin University of the Arts. Publications in literary magazines, most recently in the literary magazine Neue Rundschau with a story based on a prose piece by Franz Kafka (“Elf Töchter”, Neue Rundschau 2024/1). Drawings and illustrations of literary works have been published by Guggolz Verlag. In collaboration with the author Franz Friedrich, she has written song lyrics for the films of director Max Linz.
