Anette Guther

Anette Guther, born in Edinburgh in 1965, finished her degree in costume and fashion design at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in 1993. During her studies, she was already working as a costume designer for the dance theatre group Coax and the choreographer Rica Blunck. Since 1992 she has worked as a freelance costume designer in film and advertising. Additionally, she has also worked as a costume designer in the theatre since 2005. Guther has collaborated closely with directors Christian Petzold, Thomas Arslan and Angela Schanelec. She has also created costume designs in collaboration with Isabelle Stever, Maria Schrader and Sebastian Schipper.

Her best-known works include the costume designs for the film drama “Barbara” (director: Christian Petzold), the Netflix production “Dark” (director: Baran bo Odar), the feature film “Ich bin dein Mensch” (director: Maria Schrader) and “Axolotl Overkill” (director: Helene Hegemann). In 2012, she received a nomination for Best Costume Design at the German Film Awards for her costume design in “Barbara”.

Working with Thorsten Lensing, Guther realised the costume designs for his productions “Schneewittchen” (2005), “Onkel Wanja” (2008/09), “Der Lauf zum Meer. An Idyll” (2009) and “The Cherry Orchard” (2011) as well as “Karamasow” (2014) and “Unendlicher Spaß” (“Infinite Jest”, 2018). “Verrückt nach Trost” is her seventh collaboration with Lensing.
