Dušan David Pařízek

Dušan David Pařízek was born in 1971 in Brno in today’s Czech Republic. He read comparative and theatre studies at Munich University as well as acting and directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. In 1998, he founded the Prague Chamber Theatre, which focused on new plays by Czech playwrights and on Czech premieres of German and Austrian plays. Since 2002, he has been directing in the German-language region on a regular basis: at Schauspiel Köln, Deutsches Theater Berlin, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, Theater Bremen and Schauspiel Hannover. His production of “Faust 1-3”, a combination of Goethe’s tragedies and the secondary drama “FaustIn and out” by Elfriede Jelinek, developed at the Zurich Schauspielhaus, was invited to the Berlin Autorentheatertage in 2012 and the Mülheim Theatertage in 2013. “Die lächerliche Finsternis (The ridiculous darkness)” is his first work for the Vienna Burgtheater.
