Werner Schwab

The dramatist Werner Schwab was invited to the Stückemarkt in 1991 with “Volksvernichtung oder Meine Leber ist sinnlos” (People Annihilation or My Liver is Senseless). After studying Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, he became a recluse in the countryside and took up casual jobs. At the beginning of the ’90s, he rapidly became the most frequently performed German language playwright with his “Fäkaliendramen” (Faeces Plays) and his work has been translated into many languages. Werner Schwab received the Mülheim Dramatists’ Prize and the Schiller Memorial Prize, dying after four prolific years on New Year’s Eve in 1993.
