Ricardo Sarmiento Ramirez

Ricardo Sarmiento is a dramaturge, performer and filmmaker. His artistic and thematic focusses are emerging identities, public interventions and performing arts. He currently works in Havana.

Playwright, Performer, Stage Director and Filmmaker – Havana
Born in Cuba, 1994 – and still alive.
Holds a degree in Scenic Arts and Playwriting from the University of Arts of Cuba (2018).
Artist-in-residency at inServi, a space created by Laboratorio Escénico de Expermientación Social (Havana, 2017).
Was a scholar of Panorama Sur – Intensive Seminar for Playwrights (Buenos Aires, 2017).
Since 2016 he has been one of the young Cuban directors at DocumentaSur, a space of work in Cuba with Stefan Kaegi from Rimini Protokoll.
His work has been shown at the XVI International Theater Festival of Havana (Cuba), Miami New Media Festival (USA), VI Videoart Festival of Buenos Aires (Argentina) and the America Late exhibition: 25 years in perspective (Madrid, Spain).
He has worked with the independent Cuban theatre collective La Quinta Rueda (The Fifth Wheel) for several years.
His work aims to challenge the boundaries of theatre and the arts.
