Julia Adolphe

Composer Julia Adolphe was born in New York City in 1988. Her work is composed in a vivid and immediately accessible style that takes melody as its point of departure. Clearly guided by traditional cadences and models, her compositions never deny their affiliation to the 21st century. Recently, orchestral works have been a focal point of her already comprehensive oeuvre. These works captivate listeners with their unfailingly balanced treatment of the orchestra, which never avoids opulent effects and always clearly and convincingly expresses the musical situation at hand. Prominent American orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, have commissioned – at times several – works composed by Julia Adolphe.

The composer, who has received numerous awards in the US, studied with Steven Stucky in the US and holds a doctorate from the USC Thornton School of Music. She lives in Los Angeles.
