Maryam Zaree was born in Tehran in 1983. She grew up in Frankfurt/Main and studied acting at the Film University Babelsberg. Most recently, she could be seen in the series “4 Blocks” (directed by Marvin Kren, 2017), the film “Transit” (directed by Christian Petzold, 2018) and as a guest actor at various theatres. She also works as an author and director. In 2017, her play “Kluge Gefühle” won the dramatists’ award of Heidelberger Stückemarkt and in 2018, she was awarded the Grimme-Preis for her performance in “4 Blocks”. Her directorial debut “Born in Evin” saw its premiere at the 2019 Berlinale and won the Kompass-Perspektive-Award for the best film of Perspektive Deutsches Kino.
