Lina Akif was born in 1995 in Maribor, to Sudanese-Hungarian parents. She studied Acting at the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film and Television at the University of Ljubljana. She worked with many directors from the Balkan area: Ivica Buljan, Žiga Divjak, Sebastijan Horvat, Tjaša Črnigoj, Ivana Djilas, Maša Kagao Knez, Anica Tomić, Aleksandar Popovski, Varja Hrvatin, Mojca Madon and Maruša Kink at several Slovenian theatres – in the last year and a half mainly at the Mladinsko Theatre. For her roles in “All kinds of birds”, “Fever” and “Black skin, white masks”, she received the Borštnik Award for a young actor/actress. She is most interested in devised, documentary and political theatre, focussing on exploring questions of identity, race and stories of marginalised groups. In her performances “Passion of Slovenia” and “I like Slovenia, and Slovenia likes me”, she explored the conflict between her ethnical and national identity. Her work has also been exhibited at the 5th Triennal for Young Artists and Škuc Gallery.
