Stefan Litwin

Stefan Litwin, born in Mexico City in 1960, studied piano, composition and interpretation in the USA and Switzerland. International concert activity. Performances with major orchestras, conductors, chamber music partners and singers. In addition, he particularly enjoys the lecture-recital format, because it allows him to introduce a variety of works of the piano and chamber music literature to an audience by commenting and demonstrating them at the piano. 

In addition to his work as a performer, Stefan Litwin is increasingly devoting himself to composing. His more recent works include the two musical theatres based on Peter Weiss (“Nacht mit Gästen” and “Wie dem Herrn Mockinpott das Leiden ausgetrieben wird”), “Kinderszenen”, a larger composition written for the ensemble ascolta, which critically examines the idyll of Schumann’s cycle of the same name, “Huakajchi”, a piano piece based on a song by Chilean singer Víctor Jara, as well as the full-length monodrama “Flegeljahre” after Jean Paul, realised by Ulrich Noethen and the GrauSchumacher Piano Duo. In addition, his new string quartet “Es wechseln die Zeiten” was premiered in May of this year.

Stefan Litwin’s multifaceted musical work is documented by television and radio productions in Europe and the USA as well as numerous CD productions. He has been a professor at the Saar University of Music since 1992 and from 2008 to 2024 held the position of Distinguished Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he lectured regularly as guest.
