Mercy Dorcas Otieno

I am Mercy Dorcas Otieno. I was born in Nairobi, Kenya, in 1987 and I grew up there. I graduated from the Rae Girls School in Kenya and came to Germany as an au-pair in 2006. From 2013 to 2017, I trained as an actor at the Max Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna.
During the 2017/18 season, I was a member of the acting company at Schauspielhaus Graz under artistic director Iris Laufenberg. During that time, I played roles including Daja in “Nathan der Weise”, directed by Lily Sykes. Since 2018/19, I have been a company member at Schauspielhaus Bochum under artistic director Johan Simons. Among other parts, I have played the role of Gertrude in a production of “Hamlet” (directed by Johan Simons) that was invited to the 2020 Theatertreffen. With the production “Der Bus nach Dachau” (directed by Vincent Rietveld, Ward Weemhoff – De Warme Winkel), which was presented at Internationaal Theater Amsterdam too, I will once more be a guest of Theatertreffen in 2023. Starting with the 2023/224 season, I will become a company member of Deutsches Theater Berlin under artistic director Iris Laufenberg.
