Valentin Radutiu
Born in Munich in 1986, cellist Valentin Radutiu learned to play the cello from his father Emil Radutiu who had fled Romania in 1977, and he later studied in Salzburg, Vienna and Berlin with Clemens Hagen, Heinrich Schiff and David Geringas.
Valentin Radutiu has won prizes at national and international competitions. In 2008, he won the first prize of the International Karl Davidov Competition in Riga. In 2011, he was honoured with the Music Prize of the German Economy, one of the most important prizes for young musicians in Germany. In 2012, Valentin Radutiu won second prize at the International Enescu Competition in Bucharest. From the 2012/13 season, Valentin Radutiu was supported by Bayer Arts & Culture as a "stART" artist with concerts and project funding.
Radutiu has released several CD recordings with the pianist Per Rundberg: in addition to the debut CD released in 2011, there is an album with works by Lalo, Ravel and Magnard and the first complete recording of George Enescu's works for cello and piano on Hänssler Classic, which was praised as a reference recording. The first CD recording of Peter Ruzicka's Cello Concerto and cello chamber music documents the intensive collaboration with the composer and conductor. Following the album “Remembering the rain” alongside jazz pianist Benjamin Schaefer, a recording of classical cello concertos with the Munich Chamber Orchestra has been released. In 2019, cello concertos by Haydn, Janson and Casadeus with the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn were released by Hänssler Classic.
Valentin Radutiu performs with orchestras such as the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the MDR Symphonieorchester, the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie Saarbrücken-Kaiserslautern, the Radiosymphonieorchester SWR Stuttgart, the Bucharest Enescu Philharmonc Orchestra and Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, World Youth Symphony, the Munich and Stuttgart Chamber Orchestras and Camerata Salzburg under conductors such as Wolfram Christ, Ruben Gazarian, Gustavo Gimeno, Pablo Gonzales, Stanislaw Kochanowski, Leoš Svárovsky and Radoslaw Szulc. He has performed in halls such as Hong Kong City Hall, Philharmonie and Konzerthaus Berlin, Philharmonie and Herkulessaal Munich and the Atheneum Bucharest, as well as at numerous festivals.
His chamber music partners include the Hagen Quartet, Evgeni Bozhanov, Antje Weithaas, Julian Steckel, Ib Hausmann, Diana Ketler, Alissa Margulis, Igor Ozim, Alina Pogostkina, Razvan Popovici and the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic. Radutiu plays a violoncello by Francesco Ruggieri (Cremona, 1686). Since 2019 he has been first solo cellist of the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin.
