The 10 Remarkable Productions 2024

<p>On 26 January, the Theatertreffen&rsquo;s jury of critics announced their selection of 10 remarkable productions for the 2024 Theatertreffen at a press conference. Our congratulations go to the nominated production teams and all participants! The programme will be published on 5 April.</p>


Theatertreffen 2024

<p>&ldquo;Radical Playgrounds&rdquo;, an art parcours at the Gropius Bau, is spending eleven weeks exploring the differences between the concepts of play as competition and free play. Visitors are invited to walk and climb on the various installations and sculptures, to activate them and to shape the project collectively.</p>


<h3>Sasha Waltz &amp; Guests: Sacre</h3>

<h4>27 to 30 June 2024</h4>

<p>Considered one of the key works of modernism, it is a hundred years after the genesis of Igor Stravinsky&rsquo;s &ldquo;Le Sacre du Printemps&rdquo; that Sasha Waltz takes on the Mariinsky Theatre&rsquo;s offer to engage with this extraordinary piece of musical and dance history. Its title translates to &ldquo;The Rite of Spring&rdquo;.&nbsp;For this evening, it is accompanied by the &ldquo;Sc&egrave;ne d&rsquo;Amour&rdquo; from &ldquo;Rom&eacute;o et Juliette&rdquo; by Hector Berlioz and her choreography &ldquo;L&rsquo;Apr&egrave;s-midi d&rsquo;un faune&rdquo; to the music of Claude Debussy.</p>


<p>The massacre, hostage-taking and rocket attacks by Hamas have shaken us deeply. The grue-some attack on Israel on 7&nbsp;October left us stunned and initially lost for words.</p>

<p>Berlin is known for its numerous &ldquo;Spielpl&auml;tze&rdquo; for kids, but the project &ldquo;Radical Playgrounds&rdquo; is a place where play gets serious.&nbsp;It arrives at Gropius Hain for eleven weeks like an itinerant, temporary funfair: both melancholic and light-hearted, sad and joyful, funny and serious.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Active since 2018, the national network DIE VIELEN formulates clear positions against enmity, right-wing extremism and attacks against artistic freedom. With the campaign &ldquo;SHIELD &amp; SHINE&rdquo;, the alliance is calling out to take an even stronger stance in support of a plural, democratic orientation of the world.</p>

<h3>Nancy Holt:&nbsp;Circles of Light</h3>

<h4>22 March to 21 July 2024</h4>

<p>Over the course of five decades, Nancy Holt explored how we perceive our environment and how we attempt to understand our place on the surface of this planet. From March 2024, the Gropius Bau presents <em>Circles of Light</em>, the artist&rsquo;s most comprehensive survey exhibition in Germany to date. It includes film, video, photography, sound works, concrete poetry, sculptures and expansive installations as well as drawings and documentation from over 25 years.</p>

<h3>Pallavi Paul: How Love Moves</h3>

<h4>22 March to 21 July 2024</h4>

<p>With <em>How Love Moves</em>, the Gropius Bau presents the first major institutional solo exhibition of Pallavi Paul. As an artist and film scholar, Paul engages the camera as her primary tool to interrogate how regimes of &ldquo;truth&rdquo; are produced and sustained in public life. Through her multimedia practice spanning film, installation, performance, drawing, photography and writing, she negotiates the documentary not only conjured as film or image &ndash; but as an ecology of materials, networks, global alliances and systems<span><span>.</span></span></p>


<h3>A Reenactment of the 1974 East Germany &ndash; West Germany World Cup Match</h3>

<h4>7 and 8 July 2024</h4>

<p>Radical Playgrounds presents Massimo Furlan&rsquo;s reenactment of the historic 1974 World Cup Football match between East Germany and West Germany that ended with an unexpected score of 1:0. For the first time, it will take place not in a stadium, but on the street Niederkirchnerstra&szlig;e where the Berliner Wall once stood.</p>

The Berliner Festspiele organise a range of festivals and art exhibitions, concerts, dance and theatre performances, readings, lectures, debates and much more throughout the year. These events are presented at a range of locations across Berlin but are concentrated primarily at their own two venues: the Gropius Bau and the Haus der Berliner Festspiele.
