Hend Elbalouty is an Egyptian production designer, choreographer, performer and author, based between Cologne and Cairo. She works across mediums combining and mixing them in accordance to the project at hand. Her primary interests reflect on taboos surrounding the body, race and the forgery of history. Her most recent work began in 2019 as part of a research residency with the Embassy of Foreign Artists in Geneva, Switzerland. During her residency Hend Elbalouty wrote her first book “hell vol.1”, a collection of fictional nightmares. The book stands alone, but also partakes in performative installations and readings, reflecting on taboos surrounding the female body, race and forgery of history. The production of the book was the first step to start her collective Gaaz together with Sara Fakhry Ismail who designed the cover and artwork for the book. Hend Elbalouty holds a Master’s degree in Performing Arts, a Bachelor’s degree in Arts Direction and a 3-year degree in Contemporary Dance.
