Leon Engler
Leon Engler was born in 1989 and grew up in Munich. He studied Theatre Studies in Vienna and Paris and obtained an MA in Cultural Studies in Berlin. He researched the literary portrait in the works of Franz Kafka at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory Image Knowledge Gestaltung at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. His first play won an award for emerging playwrights at Vienna’s Theater Drachengasse. Since then, he has premiered several other plays in Vienna, in cooperation with his theatre collective Malibu Diaries. In 2016/17, he was awarded the dramatists’ fellowship of the Austrian Federal Government. His second play, “Wasserstoffbrennen” was produced as a radio play by Deutschlandfunk Kultur and nominated for the prestigious award “Hörspielpreis der Kriegsblinden”. Leon Engler lives and teaches in Vienna.
