Thomas Meixner

Thomas Meixner studied with Prof. Christoph Caskel at the State Academy of Music in Cologne and has since worked as a freelance percussionist in the field of contemporary and experimental music. Since its foundation in 1989, he has been a member of the Schlagquartett Köln and the Thürmchen-Ensemble für Neue Musik und Musiktheater and was also a percussionist with Ensemble Köln until the end of 1999. As a founding member, he has performed regularly with Musikfabrik NRW since 1989. Continuous participation in projects of other renowned European specialised ensembles for new music and radio orchestras, sometimes in close collaboration with important composers and conductors. Over 350 premières and first performances of ensemble and solo works, around 70 publications with his participation. From 2000 to 2007 he taught percussion and chamber music at the Cologne State University of Music. Since then he has held various teaching positions, including at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria. Thomas Meixner has lived in Cologne since 1986 and, in addition to his diverse activities in the field of new music, has dedicated himself to the construction of unusual sound generators - in the 2012/13 season, for example, he is working on the reconstruction and reproduction of all of Harry Partch’s string and percussion instruments on behalf of Ensemble Musikfabrik and the Ruhrtriennale.
