Participant International Forum 2020/2021/2022

Rodrigo Batista is a Brazilian theatre maker and educator, based in Amsterdam. He graduated from DAS Theatre – Academy of Theatre and Dance (Master’s programme) at the Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2019 and also from the Universidade de São Paulo with a Master’s degree (2015) and a Bachelor’s degree (2009) in Theatre Directing. He is the co-founder of the São Paulo-based group [pH2]: estado de teatro and worked as a teacher in several cultural programmes on the outskirts of São Paulo. With his body as a locus, Rodrigo Batista expands explicitness into an aesthetic, aiming to attack the contemporary neoliberal impunity. Investigating straightforward language, propaganda as denunciation, gore/pornographic/necro visuality and decolonisation as a territorial battle, all within a body research made from impulses of iconoclasm, indigestion, mutilation, blood and sex. At the core of his recent works is the importance of performing political statements and explicit messages addressed to the current world politics. Rodrigo Batista presented works in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Germany, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium and the Czech Republic.
