Sebastian Schrader (born 1992 in Kassel, raised in Erfurt) initially trained as a tailor at the theatre workshops in Oldenburg. This was followed by studies at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden under Barbara Ehnes, Knut Klaßen and Nadia Fistarol, e.a., and an Erasmus stay at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht. He completed assistantships at the Staatsschauspiel Dresden and Staatstheater Wiesbaden. As a freelance stage and costume designer, he has been developing works at the Bühnen Bern, Staatsschauspiel Dresden and Neue Bühne Senftenberg, among others, since 2022.
Most recently, he was involved in the research project ‘rescene’ by Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden which explores possibilities for the sustainable use of resources in theatre and contributed to the development of a modular space system. As a member of the board of the Scenography Association (dt. Szenografie-Bund), he also campaigns for fair pay and working conditions for theatre professionals.
